Leon Kowalski is a Nexus-6 replicant who, along with Roy Batty, Zhora, and Pris, escapes from an off-world colony and returns to Earth. He is a combat and labor model, and his primary motivation is to extend his four-year lifespan. Leon is the first replicant encountered by Blade Runner Dave Holden during a Voight-Kampff test at the Tyrell Corporation, and he shoots Holden when the test reveals his nature. Later, he ambushes Rick Deckard in a bathroom, nearly killing him, but is himself killed by Rachael, who shoots him in the back. Leon is portrayed by actor Brion James.

He is present when the group visits genetic engineer Hannibal Chew, pressuring him for information on how to reach Eldon Tyrell. Leon's final confrontation comes after Deckard kills Zhora; he catches Deckard off-guard in a bathroom, overpowering him with his superior strength. As Deckard gasps for air, Rachael—who has followed them—shoots Leon from behind, ending his life. Leon never learns the answer to his central question: how to live longer.
