Gaff materialized beneath the flickering sign of a noodle shop, his fedora pulled low against the downpour. He watched Deckard stumble through the oily puddles, a hollowed-out shell of a man broken by the night's slaughter. Without uttering a syllable, Gaff reached into his coat and produced a scrap of paper. His fingers moved with surgical precision—fold, crease, tuck—transforming the mundane sheet into a delicate unicorn that gleamed wetly in the streetlight. He placed it gently on Deckard's car hood, then turned, dissolving back into the mist, leaving only the silent, paper witness to bridge the gap between hunter and hunted.

Gaff is a Los Angeles police officer who escorts Deckard throughout his mission. He primarily uses "Cityspeak", a creole of Spanish, French, German, Hungarian, Chinese, Russian and Japanese, which Deckard pretends not to understand. Gaff is never shown participating in Deckard's investigation, preferring to linger in the background crafting origami figures; he appears to have an ambivalent attitude towards the replicants, observing "the other man's dead, Deckard... it's a shame she won't live".
